The history of Mudhi Mansa is a rather short one for most denizens. The birth of this instantaneously addictive delicacy was in 1969; when an enterprising gentleman Shri Kartik Chandra Behera opened upon the idea of achieving on a traditional favorite from the House of Mayurbhanj. But for the young, food loving entrepreneur it wasn’t just going to take the recipe that commenced a thousand and one versions across the former state of Mayurbhanj (which included parts of Bengal as well) exactly, he did it in his personal way. Mudhi mansa is one of the renowned snack dish of Odisha. It is typically famous in ‘Baripada’ a town located in the District- Mayurbhanj of Odisha. Baripada Famous Mudhi mansa comprises Mutton alu curry (mansa) which is eaten with Mudhi (puffed rice). This snack dish is sufficient to fill up your appetite and today we’re sharing the recipe by which you can easily make it at your home.

 For Mansa gravy:

  • Chicken/ Mutton – 250gms
  • Onion – 2
  • Ginger – 2 inch
  •  Garlic – 6-7 cloves
  • Tomato- 1
  •  Potato- 1
  • Garam masala- 1 tsp
  • Chicken masala – 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder -1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric  powder – 1/2 tsp 
  • Chilli powder- 1 tsp
  •  Green chilli – 2
  • Bay leaves( Tejpatta)- 2
  • Coriander powder- 1/2 tsp 
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Mustard oil -40ml (You can take refined oil too)
  • Salt as per taste

Steps

  • First heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions to it. Then fry till it turns brown.
  • Make a paste of ginger garlic and add to it. Fry it for 2 mins.
  • Then add turmeric powder, green chilli, chilli powder, chopped tomato, cumin and Coriander powder to it and stir it still it leaves oil.
  • After then add mansa and fry it for 5 mins. Then add potato, salt to taste, garam masala and fry in a medium flame. Stir it until it becomes dry.
  • Now add some water to the mixture and cook till the consistency becomes thick.
  • At last add chicken masala and leave it for 1min.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves, mix and turn out the flame.
  • Now your mansa curry is all set to be served with mudhi or puffed rice.
