ENES Cup 2019: Odisha’s Pramod Bhagat Bags Gold in Men’s Singles Badminton

Bhubaneswar:  Pramod Bhagat, an expert and professional  Para  shuttler  from Bargarh district of Odisha, has grabbed gold medal in the finals of the Para Badminton Men’s singles event of  the 5th Turkish Para Badminton International, ENESCUP 2019, on Saturday. By beating  Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara  with a score of 21-19 21-17 he received this yellow metal. This international event was held from 24th March to 30th March at Antalya in Turkey .

But  Pramod Bhagat’ luck didn’t support him in the men’s double event at the same tournament on Friday. He was paired  Manoj Sarkar and lost the men’s double event to Indonesian duo Dwiyoko and Fredy Setiawan with a score of 21-12 11-21 21-12.

Last year, Pramod had won 2 bronze medals in the last edition of the same tournament which was held in Konya city, Turkey. Last month at the IWAS World Games in Sharjah, Pramod had collected two golds and a silver medal .

At the age of 7, although Bhagat afflicted with Polio, still he had first participated in National Para Badminton Championship in the year of 2006. Currently Pramod Bhagat is one of the five Para Badminton players to have been shortlisted by Mission Olympic Cell of Sports Authority Of India to target the TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) for preparation of Tokyo 2020- Para Olympic Games.
