Taptapani is one of the most famous natural hot water sulphur springs in Eastern Ghats of Gajapati district in Odisha. ‘Tapta’ means Hot and ‘Pani’ means water (in Odia). It is one of the few perennial hot springs in India. Taptapani is surrounded by a cluster of hills and thick forests and the serenity of nature enhanced by wonderful sights of sun rise, sun set moon lit night, chirps of birds and sight of wild creatures and tribal dance and music.

Major Attractions:

Hot water sulphur springs are natural wonders and it is the main attraction, which is used for medicinal purposes and also helps in curing skin diseases. You can also take a hot water bath in a pond created next to the hot spring and then worship.

Deer park near it is the second most attraction, where you can find spotted deer, blackbucks, sambars and barking deer, it attracts a large number of people.

This place is surrounded by hills and forests with greenery all around, so it is a nice place for exploring the wildlife. Trekking is also an opportunity available in this area to see the virgin hilly mountains and wildlife and birds.

The tribal communities and the outstanding picturesque landscape also attract people during winter season for picnic with family, friends and relatives.

When to Visit?

The best time to visit is during the winter season from late October to early March. It is also a famous picnic spot.

How to reach the Hot water springs?

  • By Air:

Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneshwar is the closest airport. From there you can rent a car to Taptapani Hot water springs which is 225 kms via NH 16 from Bhubaneshwar city.

  • By Train:

Brahmapur Railway Station is the nearest. You can rent a car to visit Taptapani Hot water springs which is 56 kms from Brahmapur city.

  • By Road:

Rental car services are available from Brahmapur and Bhubaneshwar to Taptapani Hot water springs.
