Everyone loves visiting Planetarium, don’t you? Its roof is doom shaped or semicircular, which is soundproofed.  The Pathani Samanta Planetorium is situated near Acharya Vihar square towards Sainik School road, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This planetarium was established by Science and Technology Department, Govt. of Odisha for creating acknowledgement about astronomy and space science among people. The Planetarium got it’s name after famous Odia astrologer “Samanta Chandra Sekhar Mahapatra”, who was popularly known as “Pathani Samanta”, the Indian astronomer. 

The Pathani Samanta Planetarium of Bhubaneswar was created with the objective of informing people about astronomy, astronomy and astrophysics. In addition, this planetarium is also working to create awareness among people about their surroundings and environment. There is an arrangement of audience seating around it. Although  Shows are regularly held here on outer space. Such shows usually feature night sky watch, poster shows, audio visual programs and many space equipment. Due to the show running in the planetarium, a large number of tourists come here. Children especially like watching Night Sky and other programs. The shows here are very informative for the youth. The planetarium exhibit four shows daily between 2 PM to 6 PM in Odia, Hindi and in English for 45minutes of duration. If you wish, you can also read a book based on science and outer space in the library of Planetorium which is very informative for all. Timings: 2 PM to 5 PM

Apart from daily shows, the planetarium authority performs safe sky watch programme during solar eclipse, lunar eclipse and other special astronomical events. Pathani Samanta Planetarium is an perfect destination for excursion tours of school students. Large number of students visit the planetarium during winter season from November to January as part of their school trip arranged by school. I had also visited this planetarium as a school trip in my school days, and I must say it’s the unforgettable experience ever to watch all those terrestrial and extra-terrestrial bodies of Universe with your friends under a roof which is very informative and entertaining.
